Intro

I grew up in the progressive & feminist Boston community (my mother is co-author of Our Bodies, Ourselves) becoming an activist in my own right by high school working in the regional office of STOP Nuclear War. At Wesleyan University I served as treasurer of the student body instituting new anti-discrimination rules, as a student trustee advocating for divestment from apartheid South Africa, and as a member of student government, leading Wesleyan to adopt a new policy on discriminatory recruiters. In 1996 in Boston, responding to a dearth of community resources in the LGBT community I launched Hannah's List, a "craigslist" style e-newsletter which continues to be published as an independent nonprofit, Boston's Queer Agenda. Through the year 2000 my focus was to create a warm, accepting, diverse, connected, creative and progressive LGBT community and I produced numerous sold out events as well as three "Pride Parties for Women of All Colors" with Toolbox Productions & Assata. After moving to the West Coast, I produced benefits for independent films among other events in San Francisco and worked for progressive telephone company Working Assets, winning an all company sales challenge. In 2002 I married Soprano & nutritionist Emily Bender and we had our son in 2003. We married again in 2008 when it became briefly legal in California. Since moving to Marin, I have produced numerous events in the arts, in the LGBT community and supporting health & wellness, the environment, independent artists and diversity. Events create an opportunity to reach for our dreams and create a "new normal". We have the opportunity to be inclusive, to introduce new ideas and talent, and to galvanize people & resources for social change.
